Weekend Wrap Up

Weekends always tend to go by way too fast. Now that I am working ONE job and a job that doesn’t make me hate my life every time I step into the building I tend to enjoy my weekends a bit more.

Friday I got of work and headed to met mom and dad for dinner. My aunt and uncle were in town and we were going to dinner with them. I enjoy being around them, but we have completely different views and ways of thinking so sometimes I find that it’s better for me to sit there and not really pay attention vs opening my mouth and saying something. It’s just not worth the argument sometimes.

Dinner was good and I came home and crashed almost immediately. I was exhausted.

Saturday I woke up early. I don’t know what happened, but it’s like since I turned 30 I am incapable of sleeping in. It’s not something I enjoy because on the weekends it has me waking up at 6 or 6:30 in the morning – only an hour or so later than I normally wake up during the week.

Anyway, Saturday I woke up and cleaned my apartment. Once the apartment was clean I went to the store to get my food for meal prepping. This was all before noon.

The evening I headed to a friends house for a get together her and her husband were having. It was so good to see my friend Lisa. We used to work together and I am so glad that we kept in touch. She’s one of my favorite people to be around because there is no bullshit around her. She’s a straight shooter and tells it like it is but she also is kind and warm hearted. It was a good evening and the smoked pork her husband made was delicious. It was nice just to sit outside and enjoy the company. I left around 9 and got home around 10.

I have spent my downtime this weekend catching up on Scandal when I can. I was incredibly behind. I’m finally all caught up though and wow…

Sunday I again woke up at the crack of dawn because see reason above – I am 31 and incapable of sleeping in. I laid in bed for a bit watching Scandal before dragging my lazy butt up and hitting the gym. I had probably the best work out I’ve had in a while.

After the gym I came home and just relaxed the rest of the evening before heading to dinner with some friends.

Overall the weekend was nice and relaxing and now I’m ready to hit the ground running for the next week ahead.

How was your weekend?

Fitness Friday + Recipe – Strawberry Banana Oatmeal Singles

A long, long time ago in a world where I used to blog more regularly I did a post on Fridays geared towards fitness – sharing my workouts, what I ate that week, or recipes. I stopped doing it because I worked two jobs and just could NOT keep myself focused.

Now that I have all this extra time on my hands AND I am attempting to not be a lazy bum and am working on becoming healthier (again) I decided this was something I wanted to start up again. I want to share my workouts, what I’m eating for the week and at the end share a recipe…

A few weeks ago I made these delicious Strawberry Banana Baked Oatmeal singles that I saw on Pinterest. The recipe is from Emily Bites and I was floored at how delicious these were.

  • 2 cups old fashioned oats
  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 egg
  • ¾ cup skim milk
  • 2/3 cup mashed ripe banana
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup diced fresh strawberries

  1. Preheat the oven to 350. Lightly mist 12 cups in a muffin tin with cooking spray.
  2. Combine the oats, brown sugar, baking powder and salt in a large bowl and stir until thoroughly mixed.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg white, egg, banana, milk and vanilla. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until blended together. Stir in the strawberries.

  4. Spoon the oatmeal mixture evenly between the prepared muffin cups. Bake uncovered for 22-25 minutes or until oatmeal is lightly browned and a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.

Weekend Recap

I am still not used to having my weekends off. Working at the video store for over 3 years I worked most weekends at some point. If I had an entire weekend off it was usually because I had plans and not that I could sit and relax.

Now I have a life other than writing about how I worked all weekend…SO let’s recap that weekend shall we?

Friday after I got off work I headed to mom and dad’s house. They were wanting me to help them with some of their internet and streaming issues and so I worked on that a bit and then we went to dinner and ran to a couple of stores. We have had rain nonstop for a week and so it’s nice that it cleared up for a little while last night and we were able to see the sunshine after not seeing it for nearly a week.

Saturday I woke up early because who can sleep in? It was freezing in my apartment because the temperature dropped down to the 40s annnd it was raining again. I woke up wanting chili so I went to the store and got the items to make chili. I came home, started the chili, cleaned and picked up my apartment a bit and then got ready to head out for date night.

Tony and I met his sister and brother in law and niece at the movies to see Guardians of the Galaxy 2. It was so good! The theater was freezing though and thankfully I always have extra blankets in my car! After that we went to have dinner where I laughed so hard my sides were hurting.

Sunday I wasn’t feeling very well. My head was hurting so bad that I kind of hung out at home and relaxed and caught up on shows I had been neglecting.

I’m not sure what this week has in store, but I’m ready. I’m really enjoying the new job and getting off early during the week certainly doesn’t hurt!

Hope you all have a wonderful week!

So many things have happened…but just a quick synopsis…

  1. I quit the video store wayyyy ahead of schedule. I was planning to stay for a bit, but things happened, and well it was time to walk away and I did. Now I don’t know a single person that works there anymore because my friends that worked there quit.
  2. I quit my full time job…
    WHAT?!? Seriously….
I got a new job! I started last Monday and so far things are going really well. It is a lot different than what I’m used to and what I did before, but I seriously am so happy I made the change. The change was something that I desperately needed and it’s weird to work and not feel incredibly stressed out.
  3. I finally broke down and bought my own computer. For years I used the computer supplied by my employer, but I finally decided it was time to invest in my own computer. I wanted to do this so that I could start blogging more. Now that I am not working 2 jobs and I have a lot more free time I hope to start blogging more regularly.

There’s a lot more going on, but I’m hoping to work on this blog and revamp it a bit.

So we’ll see what happens!

I’m glad to be back to writing because I really enjoy blogging.

More to come soon….

5 on Friday

Let’s do a Friday Weekly Wrap Up of sorts…

But in quick view.

  1. Work has been absolutely atrocious this week. Wednesday I worked until 8PM. All I wanted when I came home was to kick up my heels, have some whiskey, and just pass out on my couch. So I did just that. I was in bed asleep by 10PM.
  2. Because work has been awful I have also been eating like shit this week and I’ve gone to the gym once. Tonight I am determined to get in there no matter how late it is. I have got to get moving.
  3. I had a job interview this week as well. Please sweet baby Jesus let this come through. I cannot handle the stress for another minute. It’s about to make my brain explode.
  4. My hours are slowly being cut at the video store and I couldn’t be happier about it.
  5. I got a raise hooray! It is the biggest raise I have ever gotten at this job and I am so thankful! Plus my supervisor is pushing for more sooo if the job interview DOESN’T Work out hooray for more money!

And that’s all I’ve got. I’m spent. I’m ready for the weekend. I’m ready to relax a little, work out some, and mostly just sit on my ass and watch TV because I have been feeling a little distant from it this week.

Catching Up

How’s your Wednesday going?

Were you woken up to the sound of horrible tornado sirens and wonderful people worried about you telling you to take cover? No? Just me and everyone surrounding me? That’s cool.

Let me tell you…I can handle pretty much any kind of weather. I mean I don’t particularly LIKE snow, but I can stay inside and be safe from that. Tornadoes, however, nope. Can’t do them. I hate them and I am actually incredibly terrified of them. April 27, 2011 we had a huge outbreak of tornadoes in the south I just can’t deal. That day was horrible and I don’t care to ever relive it. So when I woke up at 12:30 to the sirens going off I woke up in a complete panic and freaked out. Needless to say I’m very sluggish today.

Anyway, I’m not here to talk to you about how I hate tornadoes but I AM here to recap you on what’s been going on lately…

First off I want to note that I paid off some bills that needed paid off! BECAUSE of this I no longer needed the extra dough from the video store. I’ve been working 2 jobs for over 3 years and I was just over it. Paying those bills off gave me a bit of wiggle room I needed to not only SAVE money but also quit the video store. Thank you sweet mother! Only when I turned in my notice they didn’t want me to leave and asked if I would work at least one day a month. One day a month alone would pay my utility bill sooo why not? It’s just one day vs the 12-13 I’m working now. So we’ll see how that plays out…I don’t NEED the job so if I decide I don’t want to do the one day a month…buh bye!

Second, I changed my hair. I’ve been going through a lot of liberating changes. Maybe one day I’ll share them, but for now I’ll get a tattoo and change my hair color and do whatever the hell I want to do. I’m not breaking laws, I’m not hurting anyone, I’m finally being free and doing what I want to do.

My best friend Hannah moved. This is probably the biggest thing because we spend A LOT of time together and I am going to really miss her. It’s a wonderful opportunity for her and I’m excited for her but I’m not going to pretend not having my best friend in the same town as me doesn’t suck. Thankfully though I do have great people in my life in general and Erica hasn’t moved yet so all is well. If Erica moves I’m just packing up and heading back south. I cannot do without both of my girls. Erica and I threw Hannah a going away party and it was a hit! I’m so glad she was surprised and that everyone that showed up did. I’m glad we were able to see her off with a bang and let her know she is loved and that she would be missed.

Also, along with hair changes and body changes I changed my room.

And of course working less at the video store means that I have more time to spend with the real love of my life…

Overall I am honestly doing wonder. I am happy and I am finally doing things that I want to do and that make me happy. I am not worried about other people or how they will view my decisions. I am doing them. I like this place that I am in right now in my life and I can honestly say that while the last 3 months have been hard I don’t know if I ever would’ve found the freedom to truly be myself if it hadn’t of happened. I don’t know if I will ever get married and I know I do no want kids and for some reason there is great comfort and freedom in that. If I never get married then I am completely okay with that. I will travel and go places I’ve wanted to go to but put off because I didn’t want to go alone…screw that. I’ll go alone if I want to. Years ago I went to concerts alone, shows alone, etc and it was so liberating. Somewhere along the way I lost that…if no one else wanted to go then I didn’t. Screw that. If I want to go I’m going. If someone wants to tag along then great. If not then I’ll bring a book and be happy as a lark. It’s time for me to live my life for myself and not anyone else.

It’s not that I didn’t want to get married because I did and I still care and love Tony but at this point we aren’t together – we still hang out, we still talk daily, etc, but we aren’t together. He’s doing his thing and I’m doing mine and for once I am completely happy with where we stand. There are moments where I wish I had a bit more of his attention, but I also have to realize that I cannot expect that because we are NOT together and he is not required at all to give me that attention.

Anyway, this post took a strange turn, but this is where I’m currently at in my life.

Weekend in Nashville

I absolutely love Nashville, TN. It is one of my favorite places to explore and spend time. A couple of weekends ago I really needed to get away and I knew that I wanted to go to the place that I love where 2 people that I love reside. There’s absolutely nowhere else I’d rather be than Nashville, TN.

I’ve been working a lot at both jobs and job #1 has been particularly stressful and throw that in with all the bullshit that’s been going on in my personal life and well…I just needed to get away. I took 2 days off work and left early Friday morning.

Friday when I got there Hannah had just got off work and Erin and I sat and ate lunch and then we started getting ready to go out for the day.

We hit up the mall and Trader Joe’s (I always have to go there when I’m in town!) and then that night we went to have dinner at PF Changs. I love Changs and I hadn’t been there in a while and it was absolutely delicious.

Then it was back to the house to watch Golden Girls all piled in the bed with the dogs.

Saturday Hannah had to work and Erin’s back was bothering her so we laid around waiting for Hannah to get off and watched more Golden Girls. I also made a trip to Sonic because I needed a strawberry lime aide. After Hannah got home she took a nap and I slowly started getting ready for the evening. We were going to Jack & Jameson’s that night for food and live music. If you’re a fan of the show Nashville you’ll definitely want to check it out! Jonathan Jackson (Avery on the show) is part owner. Also, if you’re in Franklin in general and are looking for good food then you should definitely check it out. The food was incredible and all the beer is done locally. I tried the blackberry beer along with the brisket fritters, and the sausage with mac n cheese and the loaded potato salad. The live music was great too! If you plan to go I would suggest checking the calendar on their site first to see if anything is going on. There was a $5 cover charge to be there with the band playing but it was well worth it! I highly recommend it!

Sunday Hannah and I went to church and on the way home from church I had this wild idea to finally get my tattoo I had been wanting for years. When in Rome right? So we did some searching and found a great place Downtown that was open on Sundays and headed out with Erin for the day. Erin dropped us off at Hwy 65 downtown when she went to run errands and we walked around downtown until the tattoo place was ready for us.

(also, side note….do NOT get me started on the show Nashville. I am so mad about it right now…)

Anyway, I went to Pride and Glory Tattoos downtown and they were really great and I absolutely LOVE my tattoo.

After that we went to a couple more places and then went back to the house and just hung out and watched more Golden Girls…

Monday I had an interview for a job there…they wanted to hire me but I didn’t accept it because it’s commission based only and I cannot take a job based only on commission – it’s too risky. Also, their advertisement for the job was a little misleading because no where in the advertisement does it mention that. It actually says Competitive Pay + Commission + Bonuses – which would lead one to think when applying that you get a base pay and then commission and bonuses, but nope that is not the case. So I turned it down.

The right job is out there for me…eventually I’ll find it. I’m applying multiple places in multiple cities and wherever I land a job I know that is where I am meant to be.

The weekend though was wonderful and it was exactly what I needed. I needed the time with the people I was with, I needed time to get away, time to reflect, time to let loose and do what I wanted to do for once and to get the freakin tattoo because I wanted it on a Sunday afternoon.
