Meet Tony

Tony and I have been together for over a year and a half. He’s my very best friend and I thought it would be fun to interview him for the blog…

I want to point out that while we are doing this interview he is drinking a smoothie and wearing a green mint beauty mask. ❤

Tony: “Martin Luther King. I would like to try and understand the struggles he went through and how he dealt with all of that.”
  2. Describe your idea of a perfect day?
Tony: “Napping and someone bringing me fresh cheeseburgers off the grill and feeding them to me while I wear a crown of fresh strawberries. Then they feed me the fresh strawberries.”

Tony: “Kelly from Saved by the Bell”

    Tony: “Your kind heart.”
  7. What is your favorite smell?
Tony: “Cheeseburgers.” and then he laughs

  8. What is one thing that women do that grosses you out?
    Tony: “Nothing really.”
Me: “So there’s nothing a woman does that makes you want throw up (Makes throw up noise)”
Tony: “No because I think most of the shit women do that would make me want to throw up they do behind close doors.”
  9. What did you want to be when you grew up?
    Tony: “Pro Wrestler”
  10. What’s your grossest habit?
    Tony: “What I ain’t sharing that…”
    Me: “C’mon”
Tony: *sassy snap* “I don’t have any. I’m perfect”
  11. If money was no object where would you choose to live?
Tony: “I’d buy my own private island.”
Me: “Would you let people visit you?”
Tony: “No. They can send smoke signals.”
  12. If you were the host of a TV show what kind of show would it be?
    Tony: “Sketch comedy”
  13. A genie comes out of your phone and grants you 3 wishes. What are your 3 wishes?
Tony: “Money, 12 1/2 orange cats with tiny legs, more. money.”
Me: “So what are you going to do with 1/2 of a cat?”
Tony: “I don’t know. Call him lucky?”
Me: “You’re the one that said you wanted 1/2 a cat”
Tony: “I know I was trying to pick a good round number.”
  14. One thing you want to do before you die?
    Tony: “Sky dive”
  15. What do I do that annoys you?
Tony: “Apologize over and over again.”

So that’s that. I enjoyed doing this. I was cracking up a lot while we were doing this. He makes me laugh a lot. We always have a lot of fun together.

Tony and his friend Toby have also started doing a new horror sketch show – Graveyard Tales. They dress up in their characters Zed and Slash and share old horror films. They have done some podcasts, filmed some commercials for people, and are getting ready to launch their own show on YouTube. If that’s something you’re interested in you should check them out on Facebook. I’m proud of him for it because it’s something he’s wanted to do for a while now and I’m glad he has something for him kind of like how I have my blog here.

Anyway, I hope your week is going great!

I miss the 90s

I was born in 1985 & while I enjoy some of the things from the 80s – The Breakfast Club, Alf, the music BUT I grew UP in the 90s and there are things I miss from the 90s. So I thought that I would share some of those things with you today.

MTV Music / TRL – Yes MTV had music videos prior to the 90s, BUT I’m really talking about TRL here. Remember when MTV actually used to play music? Well, I LIVED for TRL when I got off of school especially when my favorite artists were on there. The first episode aired in 1998 & ran for 10 years before it disappeared among the reality shows MTV now airs. I always wanted to go and see TRL live because they always had the hottest stars on there. I remember watching it when it was revealed that AJ from Backstreet Boys was going to rehab. It was a huge, huge part of my life.

Nickelodeon Slime – On game shows on Nickelodeon in the 90s if you lost you got the slime. It made slime COOL and I always wanted to be slimed. I didn’t care that it meant I was losing. I WANTED TO BE SLIMED.

Sonic the Hedgehog – I was introduced to Sonic the Hedgehog when the brother of the girl that used to babysit my brother and I had a Sega and had this game. We LOVED this game and would stay in his room hanging out playing the game from the time we got done at school until mom or dad came to pick us up.

Disney Channel in Concert – I LOVED this. They would air on Fridays in the 90s and I lived for them. NSYNC, Jessica Simpson, Youngstown, Cleopatra, B*witched, Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees were all on there and to me it was like seeing them in concert even though it was obviously NOTHING like it. I would be glued to the TV and even record my favorites on a VHS to watch later.

Disney Original Movies – Look, I know that Disney had these before the 90’s, however, I feel like the movies we HAD in the 90s were a lot better – Zenon, Halloweentown, Brink, and Smart House for example. I loved them! I still watch Halloweentown every year.

Friday Pizza & Movie Nights – My love for movies started at a very, very young age because most Fridays growing up were pizza and movie nights in our house. Where we lived they wouldn’t deliver because we were too far out, However, they would deliver to the video store in town so we would have them deliver there and we would go and rent movies. I remember when Hocus Pocus was released I tried for WEEKS to get it and it was always out. I finally got my hands on it. Still to this day at nearly 32 I love Hocus Pocus, but truly I love movies. I have worked at 2 different video stores and own a ton of movies. “Be Kind Rewind”

SNICK – I know I keep saying this BUT I LIVED for Snick growing up. Every Saturday night you could find me watching my favorite shows on here – Clarissa Explains it All, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Adventures of Pete & Pete, The Secret World of Alex Mack, All That, Kenan & Kel. Are You Afraid of the Dark was by FAR my favorite.

Backstreet Boys & NSYNC – I know, I know there’s a huge debate about who is better, but let me just say I love both. Yes, I used love because I will still rock out to them on any given day. Throw in Hanson and man you just made my day!

Nickelodeon Cartoons – In my opinion the cartoons on Nickelodeon in the 90’s were the best. The Angry Beavers, Hey Arnold, Wild Thornberrys, Rugrats, Ren & Stimpy, Ahhh Real Monsters, Doug, Rocko’s Modern Life, etc. They were the best. I recently bought a shirt that has the old cartoons on it and without fail every single time I wear this shirt I get numerous comments on how awesome it is.

Power Rangers – I know the Power Rangers are still around, but I still believe 100% that the original rangers were the best. I remember being in 4th grade and we used to have a Power Ranger club. We had someone represent each of the rangers and I loved the yellow ranger. We would play as the “Power Rangers” during recess and it was a blast. The original rangers will always, always be the best!

When I started sitting here thinking about all these things I had a ton so there will definitely be a part 2 to this. I just loved growing up in the 90s. There was so much that happened in the 90s and I know that it wasn’t perfect but I feel like a lot that I grew up with was truly the best.

What are some things that you miss about the 90s?

Fitness Friday + Recipe – Quinoa Enchilada Casserole

I am still getting in the routine of blogging again. I have tons of ideas it’s just actually sitting down and forming them and doing them. I am excited to share some of them with you!

I went to the gym over the last weekend and while I didn’t make it nearly as much this week I tried to get my eating on point and I am actually DOWN weight.

I want to say that for once I am focused more on being healthy and less of a number on a scale. I know that I will never be skinny. I have curves and I will always be a little more on the curvy side and for once I am okay with that. I want to get rid of my gut and tone my arms a little more. I actually have some definition in my arms and I actually like my legs and thighs. Sure they could stand to lose a little more weight, but overall they are muscle and I know I will never have a thigh gap (and that’s not what I’m striving for)

For the first time in my life it’s not about a number on a scale. It is about being healthy and happy. I want to love myself and the person that I see in the mirror. I feel like I’m on the right track and while I may not have worked out as much as I wanted to this week I had some of the best work outs I’ve had in a very long time.

Anyway, let’s get to the week…

Workout: I won’t go to the gym tomorrow. I have plans after work, but I’ll pick it all back up this weekend.

Quinoa Enchilada Casserole

I found this recipe from Damn Delicious and I was super eager to try it. The ingredients were simple but I was certain that they recipe was going to be great. It was easy enough and was the perfect thing for my meal prep this week and let me tell you – it was delicious. Next time though I do think I will add chicken to it.

  • 1 cup quinoa (I used the roasted red pepper & basil – You can use whatever you find)
  • 1 (10-ounce) can enchilada sauce
  • 1 (4.5-ounce) can chopped green chilis – drained
  • 1/2 cup corn kernels, frozen, canned or roasted
  • 1/2 cup canned black beans, drained and rinsed (I actually used the whole can)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 3/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, divided

  1. In a large saucepan of 2 cups water, cook quinoa according to the instructions –

  2. Preheat oven to 375.
  3. In a large bowl, combine quinoa, enchilada sauce, green chiles, corn, black beans, cilantro, cumin and chili powder; season with salt and pepper, to taste. Stir in 1/2 cup cheddar cheese and 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese.
  4. Spread quinoa mixture into a greased baking dish. Top with remaining cheeses.

5. Place into oven and bake until bubbly and cheeses have melted, about 15 minutes.

Food blogger I am not, but I am going to try next time to use my actual camera to step it up and see if I can get better pictures.

Hope you guys have a wonderful weekend!

2017 Book Review Pt 1

I love to read and I do a mixture of both listening and reading. Listening at work and in the car and reading during my lunch break and at night before bed. I thought I would give a book review for what I have read so far in 2017:

Usually I listen to Gillian Flynn’s books instead of actually reading them, but this one it was only available to read and I really enjoyed it. I was sucked in almost immediately. I’m really enjoying suspenseful books lately. I’m on a kick with them.

This was one of the books that I listened to. It took a bit for me to get into but it was a light and easy listen. I enjoyed it enough.

I really, really enjoyed this book. I actually figured it out half way through and kind of expected the “bad guy” to be the bad guy, but I still enjoyed it. However, do NOT get me started on the disaster of a movie. I cannot. I’ll do a separate movie review.

I have always been fascinated by what I’ve heard about Scientology and the fact that they seem to worship Tom Cruise who gets on my nerves. I have also always liked Leah Remini and watching her show and reading this book did not change that love…if anything it amplified it. She is just a bad ass. In the book she gives her account of Scientology and things she went through while a member – including Tom’s wedding to Katie and what happened while she was there.

I love Lauren Graham. She’s the reason I started watching Parenthood because I love her so much. This book she shares her life and stories from Gilmore Girls and Parenthood and even talks about the reviving of Gilmore Girls. I also have to admit that I cried reading the last chapter because I love her and Gilmore Girls so much. If you do too then I highly HIGHLY recommend this book.

I listened to this book as well and it sucked me in almost immediately. I stayed up super late one night just listening to it because I could not stop. I will admit that I honestly had no clue. I figured the “bad guy” was a bit fishy, but I didn’t see it all unfolding the way that it did. It was very enjoyable and now I want to read In a Dark, Dark Wood.

I listened to this while at work. I think I’m getting old because I find that I much rather listen to books than music. This was an easy listen. I kind of didn’t completely expect the ending and so that was kind of out of no where, but it was enjoyable enough. I am now listening to the 2nd part in the series.

I really enjoyed this book. It had me locked in from the start. I read it because the commercials for the series appealed to me and caught my attention. However, after watching the series there were changes to it from the book that I didn’t enjoy. I won’t ruin it for you but I need to learn that when it comes to books vs screen I will always be disappointed.

This was an easy listen. It’s easy to follow and I want to finish the series to see what happens.

Shane Dawson is easily my favorite YouTuber. He’s hilarious and every single one of his videos leaves me in stitches. So I finally had to pick up his books. This is his first one and I loved it. I have the 2nd to read as well but I have a few more books in the que before I get to this one.

I love reading and I’m already half way done with the next list of book reviews.

So share with me…what’s something you’ve read lately that you enjoyed?

Weekend Wrap Up

Weekends always tend to go by way too fast. Now that I am working ONE job and a job that doesn’t make me hate my life every time I step into the building I tend to enjoy my weekends a bit more.

Friday I got of work and headed to met mom and dad for dinner. My aunt and uncle were in town and we were going to dinner with them. I enjoy being around them, but we have completely different views and ways of thinking so sometimes I find that it’s better for me to sit there and not really pay attention vs opening my mouth and saying something. It’s just not worth the argument sometimes.

Dinner was good and I came home and crashed almost immediately. I was exhausted.

Saturday I woke up early. I don’t know what happened, but it’s like since I turned 30 I am incapable of sleeping in. It’s not something I enjoy because on the weekends it has me waking up at 6 or 6:30 in the morning – only an hour or so later than I normally wake up during the week.

Anyway, Saturday I woke up and cleaned my apartment. Once the apartment was clean I went to the store to get my food for meal prepping. This was all before noon.

The evening I headed to a friends house for a get together her and her husband were having. It was so good to see my friend Lisa. We used to work together and I am so glad that we kept in touch. She’s one of my favorite people to be around because there is no bullshit around her. She’s a straight shooter and tells it like it is but she also is kind and warm hearted. It was a good evening and the smoked pork her husband made was delicious. It was nice just to sit outside and enjoy the company. I left around 9 and got home around 10.

I have spent my downtime this weekend catching up on Scandal when I can. I was incredibly behind. I’m finally all caught up though and wow…

Sunday I again woke up at the crack of dawn because see reason above – I am 31 and incapable of sleeping in. I laid in bed for a bit watching Scandal before dragging my lazy butt up and hitting the gym. I had probably the best work out I’ve had in a while.

After the gym I came home and just relaxed the rest of the evening before heading to dinner with some friends.

Overall the weekend was nice and relaxing and now I’m ready to hit the ground running for the next week ahead.

How was your weekend?

Fitness Friday + Recipe – Strawberry Banana Oatmeal Singles

A long, long time ago in a world where I used to blog more regularly I did a post on Fridays geared towards fitness – sharing my workouts, what I ate that week, or recipes. I stopped doing it because I worked two jobs and just could NOT keep myself focused.

Now that I have all this extra time on my hands AND I am attempting to not be a lazy bum and am working on becoming healthier (again) I decided this was something I wanted to start up again. I want to share my workouts, what I’m eating for the week and at the end share a recipe…

A few weeks ago I made these delicious Strawberry Banana Baked Oatmeal singles that I saw on Pinterest. The recipe is from Emily Bites and I was floored at how delicious these were.

  • 2 cups old fashioned oats
  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 egg
  • ¾ cup skim milk
  • 2/3 cup mashed ripe banana
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup diced fresh strawberries

  1. Preheat the oven to 350. Lightly mist 12 cups in a muffin tin with cooking spray.
  2. Combine the oats, brown sugar, baking powder and salt in a large bowl and stir until thoroughly mixed.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg white, egg, banana, milk and vanilla. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until blended together. Stir in the strawberries.

  4. Spoon the oatmeal mixture evenly between the prepared muffin cups. Bake uncovered for 22-25 minutes or until oatmeal is lightly browned and a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.

Weekend Recap

I am still not used to having my weekends off. Working at the video store for over 3 years I worked most weekends at some point. If I had an entire weekend off it was usually because I had plans and not that I could sit and relax.

Now I have a life other than writing about how I worked all weekend…SO let’s recap that weekend shall we?

Friday after I got off work I headed to mom and dad’s house. They were wanting me to help them with some of their internet and streaming issues and so I worked on that a bit and then we went to dinner and ran to a couple of stores. We have had rain nonstop for a week and so it’s nice that it cleared up for a little while last night and we were able to see the sunshine after not seeing it for nearly a week.

Saturday I woke up early because who can sleep in? It was freezing in my apartment because the temperature dropped down to the 40s annnd it was raining again. I woke up wanting chili so I went to the store and got the items to make chili. I came home, started the chili, cleaned and picked up my apartment a bit and then got ready to head out for date night.

Tony and I met his sister and brother in law and niece at the movies to see Guardians of the Galaxy 2. It was so good! The theater was freezing though and thankfully I always have extra blankets in my car! After that we went to have dinner where I laughed so hard my sides were hurting.

Sunday I wasn’t feeling very well. My head was hurting so bad that I kind of hung out at home and relaxed and caught up on shows I had been neglecting.

I’m not sure what this week has in store, but I’m ready. I’m really enjoying the new job and getting off early during the week certainly doesn’t hurt!

Hope you all have a wonderful week!
